Earthstar Studio And Jo Ridge Kelley Fine Art Studio Hosts Meet the Artists Event 163 South Main Street in Downtown Waynesville is home to a new gallery and working artists’ studio. Celebrated contemporary plein air painter, Jo Ridge Kelley, and precious metal jewelry artist, Keri Kelley Hollifield, have combined their talents in one charming historic and creative space. “It’s the perfect marriage of gallery and working artists studio, and we’re looking forward to interacting with the public to discuss collections and techniques. That interplay really inspires our work in new ways.” At the heart of the new gallery and studio sits a light-filled room, complete with 19th century charm and the tools of a master crafter. Keri Kelley Hollifield, of Earthstar Studio, has been making sterling silver and gold jewelry for more than 15 years. Hollifield’s designs are greatly inspired by her love of the natural world. Each piece is crafted by hand using techniques such as forming, hammering and soldering, creating a one-of-a-kind work of art. “I think it is wonderful to be able to touch and wear a piece of handmade art,” says Hollifield. “I thrive on knowing that each piece of jewelry I make is meant for someone special, even if I don't know who that person will be.” Hollifield also plans to incorporate her clay sculpture and pottery in the gallery in the near future. Jo Ridge Kelley is well known for her landscapes captured beautifully on canvas through the plein air technique she has mastered over a lifetime. By setting up her easel and capturing the immediate mood or drama of the moment, Kelley’s paintings truly draw viewers into the experience. “When I begin a painting, I take inspiration from a beautiful light, color, form or texture and then continue working through observation,” says Kelley. As paintings take on a life of their own, Kelley allows her own emotional response to her surroundings to infuse the work with exaggerated and unexpected color relationships and compositions. “I find it much more satisfying to be guided as much by my imagination and memory as my eyes.” Visitors will find a colorful collection of Kelley’s landscapes on display as well as intriguing abstracts and bold new works in progress. Kelley and Hollifield will also be offering demonstrations, workshops and one-on-one consultations. The gallery and working studio is located at 163 South Main Street in Downtown Waynesville. Both artists will host a Grand Opening celebration on Friday, October 7th: 5-8pm, the same evening as Art After Dark. Light refreshments will be served. Everyone is invited! Regular hours for the gallery and working studio will be: Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday: 11a-5p. Tuesdays & Wednesdays, by chance or by appointment. Jo Ridge Kelley 828.226.0549 joridgekelley.com Keri Kelley Hollifield 828.506.7287 earthstarstudioart.com For a glimpse into the combined works, Kelley and Hollifield can both be found on Facebook and Instagram. Hollifield also retails her handcrafted jewelry through her Etsy store.
